Ramsgate Tunnels

Put on a hard hat and pick up a lantern for a guided tour of Ramsgate’s wartime tunnels. Starting in a magnificent Victorian Railway tunnel discover how the railways came to Ramsgate before journeying into part of Britain’s largest civilian air raid precaution system. Hear about the construction of this amazing system that could hold up to 60,000 people, and see the conditions in which they would have sheltered. Find out why Winston Churchill was refused entry, and learn the rules and regulations governing your wartime stay. Finally visit Tunnel Town and see where over a thousand people set up their own town when the blitz destroyed or badly damaged their houses.
Tours are led throughout by knowledgeable guides who will answer any questions. Photography allowed in most sections. Small cafe on site.
