Ramsgate Maritime Museum

About

Situated in the Clock House on the quayside at Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour, the museum focuses on Ramsgate, which for nearly 200 years has played a role in the sea-faring life of South East England.

Set in the heart of the country's only Royal Harbour, the museum building is an exhibit in its own right, being the product of some of the most eminent civil engineers and architects of the early 19th century. Former occupants have included the Royal Navy, Trinity House and the General Steam Navigation Company.

The Clock House is the site of the unique Ramsgate Meridian - from which our own particular Mean Time - 5 mins 41 secs ahead of Greenwich- was calculated!

There are four permanent galleries of exhibits telling the maritime history of the area plus an historic vessel – the steam tug Cervia. This vessel is moored in the harbour next to Smeaton’s Dry Dock, one of the world’s first dry docks
