Kent Museum of the Moving Image

About

Kent MOMI is a not-for-profit museum that explores the deep history of the moving image — from the days of candle-lit magic lantern performances and hand-painted slides, through Victorian visual experimentation, to the heyday of the cinema.

The museum is situated in the heart of the picturesque Kent seaside town of Deal, two minutes' walk from Deal Railway Station and Deal Pier and Seafront. We believe in community and access. All our exhibitions are changing "special" exhibitions — so there will always be something new to see.

Buying a ticket to Kent MOMI is the same as buying a year's membership. Come back as often as you like for one whole year. Follow us on social media and be a part of the project!

Travel by car

Turn off the A2 at the Duke of York's Roundabout onto the A258 towards Deal. Continue along the A258 for 7 miles, through the village of Ringwould and town of Walmer, until you reach Deal town centre, turning off Beach Street at the roundabout by Deal Pier onto Broad Street (which becomes Queen Street). Finally, turn right onto West Street. Kent MOMI is located at the corner of West Street and Stanhope Road.

Pay and display car parking is available at the Middle Street Car Park (off Broad Street; max. stay 4 hours, 186 bays, 11 disabled; 200m from Kent MOMI) or the Stanhope Road Car Park (off West Street, next to the Astor Theatre; max. stay 3 hours, 29 bays, 2 disabled; 50m from Kent MOMI). To park for a full day, use the St George's Car Park (further up West Street; all day parking, 125 bays, 6 disabled; 200m from Kent MOMI).

For shorter visits, parking for up to 2 hours is offered in the nearby Co-op and Sainsbury's car parks, and some or all of the parking charge is refunded in return for spending in the store. Free parking for longer visits is available outside the town centre, roughly fifteen minutes' walk away.

Coach parking

Kent MOMI stands close to a busy road junction, and there is no parking or waiting for vehicles on the street immediately outside. Dover District Council Car Parks contain a length restriction of 5.55 metres including a towbar, a height restriction of 2.50 metres including any roof rack or luggage box, and a width restriction of 2.10 metres including any wing mirrors. If your minibus exceeds any of these restrictions, coach parking is available at the following sites:

Maison Dieu Car Park, Dover

Castle Hill Car Park, Dover

Prince of Wales Terrace, Deal

Beach Street, Deal

The Strand, Walmer

Ash Road, Sandwich

The Quay, Sandwich

Please note that some of these bays are designated for sole coach use in the summer only - see signs close by for clarification. You can view this information on the Dover County Council website, and you can contact Dover District Council Parking Services by telephone (01304 872459) or email: parking@dover.gov.uk

(Correct as of January 2019)

Stagecoach operates the 12 bus service between Canterbury and Deal 6 days a week (not Sundays or Bank Holidays), with the last direct return bus from Deal being at 2:34pm. The 12 arrives at and departs from Deal South Street (just round the corner from the Deal Timeball Tower), about five minutes’ walk from Kent MOMI.

Stagecoach also operates the 80/81 bus service between Dover and Sandwich via Deal 7 days a week. The Deal Queen Street stop is closest to Kent MOMI (walk west to the junction with West Street and then north past Sainsbury’s). Note that some 80/81 buses from Deal change number at Sandwich to become the 43 bus service to Canterbury and vice versa, providing a return route to Canterbury after the last 12 from Deal South Street direct to Canterbury at 2:34pm Monday-Saturday, and a route between Canterbury and Deal on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Stagecoach also operates the 90 bus service between Dover and Deal 6 days a week (not Sundays and Bank Holidays). The 90 arrives at and departs from Deal South Street.
