Nestled at the foot of the South Downs National Park, The Jolly Sportsman is a hidden gem in a picturesque Sussex village near Lewes. It is now considered one of the best places to eat, featuring in major eating out guides. The cooking philosophy is one of classical techniques married with local, seasonal produce, creating a constantly evolving menu that has a low carbon footprint.
There's two roaring fires in winter and in summer doors open onto a lovely garden with views of the South Downs with a covered patio that makes a fine place for an early evening pint or an al fresco dinner.
Given the tranquil rural location, its the perfect spot for a romantic and relaxing break away, with four double rooms upstairs with private terrace. The rooms are tastefully furnished with super-king-size beds, high quality mattresses and linen, Nespresso machines and tea making facilities, wifi and flatscreen TVs. There are modern and well-appointed en-suite bathrooms with rainfall showers, fluffy towels and toiletries. Rates include a sumptuous Sussex breakfast the next day. The rooms and the pub are dog friendly.
From Lewes direction take the B2116. From the A23 take the junction signposted Hurstpierpoint (B2116)
