About

A range of medieval buildings (13th-15thC) which have remained in use since Abingdon Abbey (Benedictine) surrendered to Henry VIII in 1538. The Long Gallery, Checker with Undercroft and Checker Hall, now used as a miniature theatre have been carefully restored and are in regular use. Some other remnants of the Abbey can be seen nearby but the major buildings were demolished.
