Venture beneath the waves at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and uncover a whole new world of sea creatures, shipwrecks and more this February half term! 

Follow the fascinating story of HMS Challenger as it conducts scientific research in the polar ice caps and follow the story of how the modern Royal Navy is still leading the way with cutting edge scientific research today. Join the divers of the Mary Rose and explore the wreck site of King Henry VIII’s beloved ship.

See how they recovered artefacts and raised the ship hull in 1982. Alongside a whole host of amazing events for everyone to get hands on with. 



Worlds Beneath the Waves

Embark on a thrilling 150-year voyage of scientific discovery and feast your eyes on the wonders of the deep sea. From the daring explorations of HMS Challenger to how the Royal Navy use cutting edge technology to explore the ocean today. Create your own AI creature and shape the ocean floor using AR technology. 

Dive the Mary Rose 4D

Dive into the untold story of the finding, excavation, and recovery of Henry VIII’s most beloved ship. Telling the story of the fateful day the ship sank through to its raising to the surface of the Solent in 1982. Told by the people that were there, it is a unique experience that brings you closer to the action of the raising.

Tudors in Love: Calligraphy Crafts

Learn how to write like a Tudor and make a Valentine’s card or Tudor inspired love letter using your new calligraphy skills. Find out who aboard the Mary Rose would have been able to read and write, and what fascinating artefacts were found aboard the ship, such as tiny fragments of quills and even a Tudor ink pot!

British Antarctic Survey

Become a polar researcher for the day with the British Antarctic Survey.

Join the British Antarctic Survey for the day. Experience what life and work might be like for a polar researcher in the extreme conditions of Antarctica and Arctic.

HMS Victory - Mission Minecraft

Take on our Minecraft challenge to try and rid HMS Victory of pesky silverfish! Find out more about the conservation work happening on HMS Victory with this fun, interactive event! Visitors can also part in our Minecraft Block Hunt to discover more about silverfish and other common museum pests.

Worlds Beneath the Waves Trail

Take part in a playful trail inspired by the voyage of HMS Challenger and its amazing discoveries! As you explore the Worlds Beneath the Waves exhibition you will find fun challenges including a maritime make and take and our hands on Activity Trolley!
