Winter Wonders: Your Guide to West Sussex

FacebookInstagramTwitterYouTube

Dear TSE Staff

Don’t miss a thing in West Sussex this Winter. Whether you seek peaceful contemplation, exploring nature and wildlife or fancy exploring our crowd-free waters for some adrenalin fuelled kitesurfing adventures, we have you covered! It’s time to enjoy our dark skies and get cosy by the fire in our country pubs and inns. Start planning your Winter Illuminations visits, admire the seasonal colours from high on the South Downs National Park and meander along a windswept beach. Bring your friends, family, and even the dog, to find adventures to share the great outdoors with. Have a look at our favourite things to do at this time of year and add them to your #MustDo list. This is a truly enchanting time of year!

There’s something irresistible about gazing up at a vast sky sparkling with stars. All you really need are warm clothes and a clear, dark sky which is why West Sussex is a particularly good choice. With a designated International Dark Sky Reserve, several Dark Sky Discovery Sites and Chichester Planetarium, it’s a great place to come and admire the celestial show. Make a weekend of it, stay a while and receive a warm Sussex welcome.

“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing” – Alfred Wainwright…

We can’t help but agree with Mr Wainwright - come rain or shine, what better way to immerse yourself in the season’s changes than a visit to one of West Sussex’s many gardens? With stunning varieties of plant life, including rare and exotic species, you’re in for a breath-taking experience.

If you’re looking for inspiration this weekend, don’t miss the chance for some festive fun at the Winter Fair, South of England showground, Ardingly. Sip on some mulled wine and meander around the street food stalls. Little ones can enjoy the funfair, giant snow globe and Santa’s grotto. You could even get creative with wreath-making and chocolate decorating as well as Christmas shopping. Put a date in your diaries for Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 November!

Looking for thoughtful, carefully chosen gift ideas for Christmas? Why not Shop Sussex, support local businesses in the area and save on your carbon footprint! Do you know someone who deserves pampering? From spa breaks and artisan gin to West Sussex sparkling wine, chocolate, cheese and foodie heaven to gift vouchers, stocking fillers, kids toys and attraction tickets – what’s not to love?!

Wakehurst celebrates 10 years of their enchanting winter lights trail this year. Expect something special from Sussex original winter lantern experience: celebrating the power of artists, community, and collaboration. This year expect new installations including a giant illuminated whale, delicate seahorse lanterns and the UK’s tallest living Christmas tree festooned with lights. From 29 Nov – 1 Jan but book early as tickets sell fast.

Take a stroll on the new 44-mile West Sussex stretch of the King Charles III Coast Path from East Head to Shoreham-by-Sea and see a mixture of sweeping beaches, wild nature reserves teeming with birdlife, areas of outstanding beauty and a load of cool cafes and eateries. The path passes through popular seaside resorts including West Wittering, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Worthing and Shoreham-By-Sea. Walkers will find lots of opportunities for leisure activities and refreshments at these locations.
