Visit Portsmouth this Christmas

to put the wind in your sails

Dear Robin

With fireworks displays, a real ice rink, festive markets, huge theatre shows, a light festival, and loads more besides, Portsmouth is the place to put the wind in your sails this winter.

Now is an ideal time to plan your next trip to the Great Waterfront City, where festive events, world-class attractions and great shopping are all within a stone's throw of one another - right along the seafront.

Take in a festive show the whole family can enjoy, with traditional pantomimes performed in the awe-inspiring surrounds of our historic theatres. Or, tick off the Christmas list with a huge selection of shops - from big name outlets at Gunwharf Quays to independent artists working from the Hotwalls Studios.

There's art on a much larger scale when the first ever We Shine Portsmouth event bursts into life. The large-scale light festival will see displays beamed onto buildings and attractions across the city, and will also include parades, performances and a Christmas market.

You can even enjoy a spot of ice skating in Portsmouth this winter, with the Guildhall Square once again being given over to an enormous, covered ice rink - allowing you to get your skates on, whatever the weather.

Plus, don't forget about our year-round attractions. Take a walk through Britain's naval history at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, enjoy the breath-taking views from Spinnaker Tower, and put yourself in the shoes of WW2 soldiers at The D-Day Story.

Book your trip to Portsmouth today, to put the wind back in your sails this winter.

If all this has got you hankering for a trip to the Great Waterfront City, complete our Visitor Survey for 2021 for your chance to win a one-night stay at the Village Hotel in Portsmouth, plus entry to a host of top city attractions.

The hugely popular bonfire and fireworks display returns to King George V fields this November, with free entry and a spectacular display set to music. The bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the stunning fireworks display will start at 7:30pm.

Don't miss Portsmouth's first light festival, where city buildings and landmarks will be illuminated by huge artworks. There will also be a parade, performances, huge murals and more.

The Christmas lights will be switched on across Portsmouth's main shopping areas across November and December - with a snowflake confetti cannon to start Christmas off with a bang.

Get your skates on this winter and enjoy a real ice rink outside the stunning Portsmouth Guildhall. The rink is fully covered, meaning you can enjoy the ice whatever the weather.

It's panto season - oh yes it is! Book your tickets now for a family bonanza across Portsmouth's famously beautiful theatres. Choose from Jack & the Beanstalk, Cinderella, and Beauty & the Beast.

Ahead of the big day, Santa himself pays a visit to the Spinnaker Tower for a series of special breakfast events. Entry gives you a slap-up meal, gift, and trip up the tower.

There's far too much going on across Portsmouth this winter to fit into a day trip - so book into the Village hotel for a modern overnight stay - with all the facilities you'd need on site.
