South East England February Half-Term Events

The first school half term holiday of 2022 will soon be upon us and with a wealth of both indoor and outdoor events and activities to enjoy, it doesn't matter what the weather holds there is a host of fun to be had by all the family. 

Choose to make tracks and let off some steam with a trip on one of the South East's heritage railways, or scurry your way into some animal adventures, discovering native English wildlife. Head over to the South East's very own island with free travel for children this half term or have fun messing about by the river with Ratty and Toad! Don't forget your four-legged friend, there's plenty to keep him/her busy too, on the beaches or in the beautiful West Sussex countryside.

Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire

Escape to Henley-on-Thames this half term, with a free trail around the Museum.

The Moonstone Door (7+), or Tiny Toad’s Treasure Hunt (under 5s).

Wander through the celebrated Wind in the Willows exhibition, dress up in the Henley Gallery, enjoy lunch in The Chocolate Café, then take our special duck feed to some hungry neighbours along the river. 

Open every day during half term, 10am to 4pm. No pre-booking needed.

Lingfield, Surrey

This February the Centre is open for two weeks over Spring Half Term, giving you more chances to see Britain’s wildlife, everything from tiny harvest mice to magnificent red deer. Home to the UK’s finest collection of native wild species, at the Centre you’ll see otters, wildcats, owl-flying, badgers and foxes, and you can walk among red squirrels, all in a safe outdoor setting. It’s a REAL natural history experience! Pre-book online and save £1 per ticket. 

February Half Term Opening: Daily from Sat 12 Feb – Sun 27 Feb 2022. Open at weekends and school holidays year round. 

Didcot, Oxfordshire

Savour the sights, sounds and smells of Steam; take unlimited rides behind our oldest Steam Locomotive, No. 1340 ‘Trojan’ and our guest Engine No. 2678 ‘Knowle’ from the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Explore the spacious undercover areas of the magnificent Engine Shed, Carriage and Wagon Display, see surviving track from Brunel's Broad Gauge, and working Signalling Centre. You can relax over lunch or enjoy a snack in the refreshment rooms and don’t forget to pick up a souvenir in the gift shop. 

Isle of Wight

Looking for exciting ways to keep the kids entertained over February half-term? Look no further than the idyllic Isle of Wight. There are adventures to be had around every corner. 

Wightlink currently have midweek car day returns from £57.

Kids also travel for free during the school holidays when you travel by foot, so you can explore the Island as often as you like. 

Tenterden, Kent

Join Kent & East Sussex Railway this February half term as they celebrate Waterbirds in the Wealden countryside. 

Enjoy FREE on-board children’s activities; see what Waterbirds you can spot along the railway line. Complete the activity sheet and collect your small prize from the gift shop on your return journey. 

Steam hauled trains will depart at 10:40am and 1:15pm on the Saturday 12th, Sunday 20th February.(excludes Monday and Friday).
