Visit Waverley this Spring

Dear TSE Staff

Change the pace with a weekend visit to south west Surrey. The stunning countryside and its small communities are a backdrop for the historic market towns of Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere, and Cranleigh – which claims to be England’s largest village. Just an hour from London, Waverley is quiet, but never boring, we promise you fabulous food, wonderful pubs, fresh air and space to relax – in fact, everything you need for a weekend of R&R.

Have a break from the car

Take your foot off the accelerator and hop on the train to south west Surrey. Explore the local area on foot or by bike with a choice of walks and cycle trails starting and finishing at Farncombe, Godalming, Milford, Witley and Haslemere railway stations.

There’s nothing subtle about the transition from winter to spring in Waverley’s gardens. Wander through gardens large and small and excite your senses with an early explosion of colour from drifts of daffodils, showy clusters of rhododendrons, exuberant displays of colourful azaleas and the calming effect of swathes of woodland bluebells.

This is the corner of Surrey that renowned garden designer Gertrude Jekyll called home, and which inspired her planting schemes that have been admired and emulated worldwide.

Looking for your forever home in Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming or Haslemere?

Why not make a weekend of it and stay in one of our wonderful boutique hotels, luxury B&Bs or opt for something quirky such as an overnight stay in a shepherd’s hut.

Get to know the area, check out the people, find your new favourite restaurant, visit the shops and take your time to get a feel for the area.

Forget airports this Easter and opt for happy memories with a hassle free, family-friendly break in south west Surrey. Hire a day boat and spend a few hours on the water or visit Birdworld for a penguin feed experience. For intrepid explorers, a visit to Alice Holt is a must with family cycling and adventurous play and, if you venture into the woods, be sure to watch out for the Gruffalo! (Or the Superworm!)

Spend a weekend living life on the wild side in the beautiful Surrey countryside. For a heart-pumping, adrenaline rush head to the hills and chase the ultimate mountain bike experience or test your head for heights with treetop challenges and adventures at Go Ape. If you prefer to keep both feet firmly on the ground, we highly recommend exploring our 400+ miles of bridleways and footpaths.

Find inspiration in this creative corner of Surrey. Head to the World Craft Town of Farnham in March for the quilters’ fair or, indulge yourself in the written word at the Farnham Literary Festival. Throw a pot at Farnham Pottery, see master craftspeople at work during Surrey Artists’ Open Studios in June or visit The Sculpture Park and explore the 2-mile sculpture trail, winding through a magical valley.

Squeeze in a cheeky spring break and catch up with your friends. Start the day with a llama trek in the Surrey Hills followed by a leisurely lunch in a quaint village pub. Hit the shops and check out our many independent retailers or be the envy of your Insta followers when you reveal that perfect item for your home which you discovered at one of our antiques centres.
