Winchester Hat Fair

About

Hat Fair is the UK’s longest continually running festival of outdoor arts. Founded in 1974 by Jonathan Kay, Hat Fair inspires and is inspired by the people, heritage and public spaces within the city of Winchester. The aim is to shine a light on the city, transforming the everyday into the extraordinary Initially conceived as a busking festival, Hat Fair takes its name from the tradition of the audience showing their appreciation by putting money in the hat at the end of the show.

This year's Hat Fair runs from 5th July until 7th July. Three days of entertainment featuring theatre, dance and circus events!

Friday & Saturday the festival takes place throughout Winchester city centre and on Sunday it will move to North Walls Recreation Ground for a Family Day.

Highlights for this year's festival:

- Motionhouse return with Wild, a brand new show co-commissioned by Hat Fair. Expect a daring dance/circus performance based in and on a forest of poles!

- Congregation an immersive, sound art procession from multi-award winning composer and artist Ray Lee.

- Tickertape Parade's Fantabulosa! a glitter-filled world of drag and queer performance, created for 3-8 year olds but fabulous for all ages! -Wild N Beets' Buck A Brenda, a playful 'end-of-the-pier' disability politics twist on the classic family favourite game Buck A Roo.

- Thingumajig Theatre's Ghost Caribou a nightmare street procession of giant illuminated creatures.

Hat Fair Festival is FREE to attend! For more info and to see what's on at this year's festival see the festival website.
