A living history Tudor Courtroom event
The year is 1585 and a Justice of the Peace commissioned by Queen Elizabeth I has arrived to hold court. Come and learn about the intrigues of village life and join in to help decide the rights and wrongs of each case.
Listen to tales of intrigue, slander and deceit! Be part of the jury with the fate of the accused in your hands. Ask questions to get to the bottom of the incidents and hear how the law would have dealt with the defendants.
Has the landlord watered the beer? Will Goodwife Manwood be granted a divorce? Who abducted Widow Besser's grandson? Will the village scold be sent to the ducking stool?
The Justice of the Peace will preside over the court trying to keep the parishioners in order.
There will be different court cases at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
Throughout the day chat with the costumed re-enactors walking around the Museum to find out what was happening in the year 1585 and learn more about the Tudors and Stuarts. Talk to the red-shirted 'interpreters' who will be happy to answer your questions!
Standard admission prices apply. Free entry for Annual Pass holders.
