The Mark Travers Project presents Thelonious Monk

Join us on a journey from the deep South to the jazz clubs of 1940's Harlem in this gripping jazz narrative of the High Priest of Bebop - Thelonious Monk - with a swinging, live twelve piece big band and exceptional cast.

Eccentric and brilliant, Monk notoriously hated interviews, would spontaneously dance during his performances and installed his Steinway in the kitchen. Adored and teased by his wife Nellie, patronised by the equally eccentric Baroness Rothschild and her 302 cats and beloved by John Coltrane he remains one of jazz's greatest innovators, the second most recorded jazz composer of all time and one of only five jazz musicians to ever grace the cover of TIME magazine.

"Amazing premier, full of energy with incredible music and storyline, playing to an enthralled packed house. A must-see that will have you on your feet!" Colin Matthews, Chair of the Hurst Festival

The Mark Travers Project is delighted to thank T.S. Monk and Robin D.G. Kelley for their words and support for this new work dedicated to the life and music of Thelonious Monk.
