From Turner to Ravilious to contemporary artists, see how this constantly changing landscape of rolling hills and rugged cliffs has been an inspiration for generations of artists.
Defined by its iconic chalk-cliff coastline and the rolling expanse of the South Downs, Sussex has inspired artists and writers across the centuries. While some found solace and reflection in the landscape, for others, it provided the vital space to explore different ways of living and artistic innovation.
Alongside works by contemporary artists, the exhibition will include works by J.M.W Turner, William Nicholson, Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant, Ivon Hitchens, Eric Ravilious and Edward Burra.
