Located in the South of England, the Wealden area lies within the Weald and includes two landscape areas – the High Weald and the Low Weald. Weald is derived from Old English and means forest. In the Anglo Saxon period, the area had the name Andredes Weald, meaning the forest of Andred, the latter derived from Anderida which is the Roman name of present day Pevensey.
Stretching 35 miles from north to south, Wealden includes the iconic Seven Sisters coastline, the South Downs National Park and the High Weald area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Attractive villages offer you a warm welcome where you will see flint, timber and thatched buildings which reflect the heritage of the local area.
In addition, you will find a wide choice of accommodation from country houses and hotels to unique B&B’s, plus caravanning, glamping and camping.
So whether it’s walking, cycling, bird watching, beachcombing, sailing, rock climbing, golfing, visiting historic houses and gardens, or just enjoying a ploughman’s lunch or cream tea, there is something for everyone to enjoy, visit the Explore Wealden website.

Also explore the various camping and caravanning options in sunny Sussex, one of the best ways to enjoy the breath-taking countryside and coastline on offer. The counties of Sussex (East and West) benefit from a wide variety of excellent and unique locations all set in a richly varied landscape. Ashdown Forest is an ancient area of tranquil open heathland occupying the highest sandy ridge-top of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The High Weald, a medieval landscape of wooded, rolling hills studded with sandstone outcrops; small, irregular-shaped fields; scattered farmsteads; and ancient route ways.
The South Downs National Park has it all – rolling hills, glorious heathland, river valleys, ancient woodland, thriving villages and market towns, and the iconic white cliffs of the Heritage Coast. Covering over 1600 square kilometres of England’s most valued lowland landscapes in the busiest part of the UK. The area includes that Sussex Heritage Coast which stretches from Eastbourne along the iconic cliffs of Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters, past Cuckmere Haven and on to Splash Point at Seaford.
