8th August 2025

This summer, Portsmouth will welcome some of the world’s best offshore sailors as The Ocean Race Europe arrives at Gunwharf Quays for an exciting four-day stopover from 14 to 17 August. Whether you're a sailing fan or just looking for a unique summer experience, this is your chance to get up close to the state-of-the-art racing yachts and enjoy a packed programme of free family-friendly activities.

See the Boats, Meet the Sailors

The fleet of high-tech foiling IMOCA 60s will arrive from Kiel, Germany, on Thursday 14 August (ETA between 12pm-7pm) as they complete the first leg of this 4,500-nautical mile race around Europe. It’s a rare opportunity to watch these spectacular ocean-going machines up close and see the crews in action.

Among them are seven British sailors across multiple teams - including Abby Ehler, Alan Roberts, Brian Thompson, Jack Boutell, Pip Hare, Sam Goodchild and Will Harris - all competing at the very top of the sport.

Sailing with Purpose

Beyond the racing, The Ocean Race Europe is also supporting global ocean science. Race boats are equipped with high-tech sensors to collect data on CO₂ levels, microplastics, and eDNA, helping researchers monitor the health of our oceans.

Don’t Miss It

With Portsmouth’s rich maritime heritage and a stunning waterfront location, it’s the perfect place to experience the atmosphere of The Ocean Race Europe.
