The Headington Shark House

About

The Shark House is an internationally recognized work of art, with a 25ft long fibreglass and steel sculpture of a shark crashing through the roof in rural Oxfordshire. The combined house and sculpture was conceived of by Bill Heine and John Buckley.

The shark was created in secret, and erected intentionally without planning permission to the shock of many on the 41st anniversary of the bombing of Nagasaki, starting a six-year legal battle for it to remain. In contrast to the surreal outside, the interior of the house is an extremely impressive, spacious, and tranquil Victorian property, finished to a very high standard, and available for members of the public to let as a self-catered accommodation with a maximum occupancy of twelve.

The house has four double bedrooms (three en suites), two additional boconcept fold-out beds can be set up in the upstairs bedrooms on request, and you can also make use of a double sofa bed for an added two guests (taking the total to 12). There is plenty of room for socialising and relaxing in the living room, and a real highlight of the home is the botanical conservatory teeming with exotic plants which opens onto an enclosed garden at the back.
