The Swale National Nature Reserve

About

This reserve forms part of the internationally recognised coastal marshlands of North Kent. It is also a special protection area with many rare and uncommon migrant moths and butterflies to be found at the reserve. Salt marshes, grazing marshes and creeks provide the feeding and roosting areas for large numbers of wildfowl and waders, which can be viewed along coastal walks.

From Leysdown on Sea take the road south along the sea front to Muswell Manor then follow the rough track for 1mile to the car park. Birdwatchers' hides are signposted from the sea wall footpath; simply follow the three-mile circular trail starting at the car park. The nearest train station is Sheerness (14km to the west), there is also a local bus service from Sheerness to Leysdown on Sea.

The reserve is relatively flat but disabled and elderly visitors are advised to take care. Toilets are not available and dogs are asked to be kept on a lead at all times.
