The Homewood

About

Designed by architect Patrick Gwynne, this twentieth-century house is a wonderful example of the style and ethos of the Modern Movement. Designed in 1938 as Patrick’s family home, the interior collection of fixtures, fittings and artwork continuously evolved over the architect’s lifetime, and now bears the hallmarks of nearly every decade since.

As this attraction is tenanted, The Homewood is open for visitors to explore by pre-booked guided tour only, between April and October. Tours must be booked in advance, and are available the first and third Friday, and the second and fourth Saturday of every month (excluding the Easter weekend), with each tour lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Your journey to The Homewood will start at nearby Claremont Landscape Garden, where your guide and minibus await to transport you to the house. Guides will provide a fascinating insight into the house and the modernist movement. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to explore and enjoy a bonus tour of the garden before returning on the minibus. You can also visit the garden on a seasonal open day twice a year – a great time to appreciate the Japanese maples planted by Gwynne.
