About

Snelsmore Common is one of Berkshire's largest remaining tract of heathland and was granted SSS1 status in 1954. The site has 2 rich valley mires (bogs), especially noted for their diverse wetland flora, eg sphagnum moss, 11 species have been recorded, including bog asphodel, sundew and many sedges. The heath is actively managed to preserve the specialised heathland, plant and animal communities. We have 2 grassed picnic sites, and very good car parking. Cattle and Exmoor ponies graze the site and are a popular feature. Dogs on leads please.
