Royal St. George's

Royal St. George's

Dr Laidlaw Purves of the Royal Wimbledon Golf Club, designed and established the Club in 1887. The Club was intended to serve the needs of London golfers who were only able to play their golf on often crowded and unkept courses in the area. Named St. George's, it was to become the English rival to Scotland's St. Andrew's. Royal status was bestowed on the Club by King Edward VII in May 1902.

The Links provides a severe test for even the greatest of golfers and the fact that only three Open winners, Bill Rogers in 1981, Greg Norman in 1993 and Ben Curtis in 2003, have managed to be under par after the 72 holes, speaks for itself.

Visitors are most welcome Monday to Friday. Two-ball golf is the normal format on all days except Tuesday. On Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the 1st tee is reserved for Members until 0940 and from 1300 to 1410: the 10th tee can often be used for those requiring earlier starting times.

Visitors are welcome to play 3 and 4-ball golf on Tuesdays from 0800 to 1030 (1000 during Winter Period) and then from 1330 to 1530 (not applicable during Winter Period). There will be no 3 and 4-ball golf permitted in August.

All reservations must be confirmed by the Office in advance
