Hastings Contemporary Art Gallery, East Sussex

About

Nestling between the fishing beach and Hastings Old Town, Hastings Contemporary is sensitively and intuitively designed by HAT Projects to complement the surrounding environment. On opening as the Jerwood Gallery in 2012 it won a RIBA National Award and Civic Trust Award. It was included in the Observer's list of top buildings 2012.

The exterior is clad in over 8000 black ceramic tiles, hand-glazed a few miles away in Kent, which reflect the changing seaside light. The emphasis on sustainability is exemplary, with the building creating 60% less CO2 per m2 than an average museum of a comparable size. It houses a range of gallery spaces from initimate rooms through to a dramatic 180m2 exhibition space.

The Drift Cafe boasts an inviting sun terrace with fantastic views over Hastings Old Town and the Stade fishing beach.

Late opening from 16.00 - 20.00

There will be times when the gallery will be closed for maintenance and exhibition turnover - please check the website for up to date information.
