How we lived then Museum & Shop
The Museum has well over 100,000 exhibits laid out on the four floors of old shops, room settings and many various displays, which have been collected over the last fifty years by the owners Jan and Graham Upton.
In the Grocer's Shop you will see Mr. Barton selling his biscuits from glass-topped tins and every inch pf shelving packed with nostalgic items from the past, such as Oxo, rinso, Blue Bagas and Many more! Also the 'Bisto Kids' have come to visit.
You can almost taste the Five Boys chocolate, liquorice, aniseed-balls and all your favourites here in the sweet shop. Theres also cigarettes and tobacco of every kind.
See the scullery maid cleaning the stove with black-lead in the Edwardian Kitchen. Also, the housekeeper who is preparing a tray to take to the folk 'upstairs'.
Home on leave and enjoying a well-earned drink is the sailor in the 'Admiral Lord Nelson'. This 'quaint' old Inn contains many items connected with the sea and also brewing.
Remember dried egg powder and other rationing items? They're all here in the Wartime Kitchen/Living Room and the under the stairs aire raid shelter.
Over the past couple of years, Jan and Graham have been working hard on altering and improving their Museum so visitors will fins many new and varied displays throughout the building.
The museum has a completely separate Gift Shop, which you are very welcome to just browse around at any time. Here you will find tradtional souvenirs and gifts, also a good selection of Victorian-sytle cards and advertising postcards.
