The Crown Inn

About

The beamed bar, with timber uprights, a stone floor and a wood-burning stove, provides a cosy place where customers can sink back into brown leather sofas or sit at pine tables. Well-kept Harveys and Kings plus local guest ales are served from hand pumps at the herringbone brick counter, and the wine selection is very good too - the hosts are in partnership with Amphora, a Sussex-based wine importer specialising in new wines from the South of France.

Run by Penny and James Middleton Burn, The Crown has a strong and well-established reputation for the excellent quality of its homemade food. While Penny does an excellent job steering the ship front of house, James takes the helm in the kitchen. Supporting local farmers and producers, James prepares seasonally evolving dishes ranging from classic to innovative. He also makes his own ice cream and bread, and the puddings are really yummy. With a choice of four dining areas each with a different feel - a bright and airy conservatory, an old-world restaurant and bar or the cosy snug - this is a place you will want to eat at again and again. Bed and breakfast is available in two lovely guest rooms located in the pretty converted stable block next to the garden.
