Extended over the years, the main building is now a labyrinth of small rooms that have retained their personality from days gone by: convivial and cosy, filled with antique furniture and old paintings, all set off with rich Zoffany fabrics and highly polished wooden tables. The Black Horse covers all bases with hand-pulled beers, an eclectic European wine list and some great chat to go with it. All of this would be meaningless without the cheerful staff, that have genuine warmth and do all they can to makes customers feel quite at home.

Customers have also come to expect a good standard of earthy British food, in both the bars and the dining room. Old English favourites have been rescued from their graves and brought to life with skill and imagination. Local pork and lamb from Coleshill and game from around Marlow will often appear on the menu. Dedication to the freshest ingredients is such that the chefs even go out foraging in the countryside for ingredients that might enhance the dishes.

The large garden and terrace is the ideal place to escape for a few glasses or satisfying lunch on a lazy summer’s day, with only the birds to disturb your peace and quiet.
