River boats outside Farncombe Boat House

About

The River Wey is often described as Surrey's best kept secret and the prettiest stretch is between Godalming at the most southerly end and Guildford 4 miles downstream.

Farncombe Boat House at Godalming is situated next to Catteshall Lock on its own special 'Island'. Throughout the summer, brightly-coloured rowboats, punts and canoes can be hired by the hour or day and 4 purpose built day narrowboats especially suitable for family outings or business entertainment are available for charter. A fleet of 6 traditional-styled narrow boats can also be booked for short breaks and longer holidays.

This is a fascinating waterway, being one of the first canalised rivers in the country, explore 20 miles of navigable river and 16 locks which are all owned and maintained by The National Trust.  Their Exhibition Centre at Dapdune Wharf in Guildford is well worth a visit.

'Hectors on the Wey' Bistro, on the riverside lawn, is open all year round for coffees, light lunches, afternoon teas or just a glass of wine!
