Basingstoke Canal Centre

About

The Basingstoke Canal runs for 32 miles, from Greywell Village in Hampshire to Woodham in Surrey. Different parts of the canal hold their own surprises such as the flights of locks in Surrey, the lakes and flashes near Mytchett or the rolling fields and picturesque cottages near Odiham.

The Canal Centre at Mytchett is the perfect place to start exploring the canal. The building houses an information area, small gift shop, toilets and a function room (available for hire).

Outside is a children's 'trailblazer' play area, plus a picnic area with benches. There is also a separate canal cafe.

Boat hire (canoes, sit-on-top kayaks, pedalos and row boats) is available Easter to end of Sept at weekends and daily during Easter, Spring Half Term and Summer school holidays - subject to the weather.

Public boat trips take place on weekends Easter to end Sept (plus Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays during the Easter, Spring Half Term and Summer school holidays.) Again subject to the weather.

The Canal Centre also have a campsite which is open April to September  (weather permitting) for short stay tents, motor homes and caravans. Please note that we have limited facilities and do not have any electric hook-up. There are also yurts for hire.

There is plenty of free parking and the towpath is easily accessible from the Canal Centre via the swing bridge. The car park is open 08.30 -17.00 daily.
