Chenies Manor House

The beautiful gardens at Chenies Manor House

Built in 1460 by Sir John Cheyne and added to in 1526 by Sir John Russell (Earl of Bedford), the Manor is now the Macleod Matthews family home. Both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I were entertained at the house, which includes a medieval well, dungeon and reputed priest hole. Winner of the Historic Houses Association & Christies Garden of the Year Award 2009. Its beautiful five acres of gardens include a sunken garden, physic and kitchen garden, with two mazes. Homemade teas available.

Little known facts:
1. Five acres of enchanting gardens, starting with 6,000 tulips from the end of April/beginning of May.
2. Plant and Garden Fair on Sunday 15th July, 10am to 5pm.
3. August 'Dahlia Festival' with many different varieties of dahlias throughout the gardens.

Road Directions

The village is midway between Rickmansworth and Amersham, off the A404 - 2 miles from junction 18 of the M25. the house is at the end of a gravel drive leading from the village green.
