Bletchley Park

Home to the famous WW2 Codebreakers

The base for many an unsung heroe of World War Two, Bletchley Park played host to some of the UK's brightest minds which were focused on enemy decrypting codes, most famously the German Enigma machine.

Bletchley Park (or Station X, as it was more cryptically known during the war) was previously a private manor house until it was bought by the head of MI6, Admiral Sir Hugh Sinclair, in 1939. Today, Bletchley Park is a fascinating museum and living testament to the work that occurred during the early 1940s. Just a short distance from Milton Keynes in the small village of Bletchley, the museum makes an easy day trip from London.

An audio guided tour helps you navigate the collection of blocks and buildings set in the 12 acres of grounds. You'll see the actual cryptology machines that were used to decipher the complex code – and hear exciting stories of spies and subterfuge!

Bletchley Park has also developed into a fine war museum in its own right. You can see permanent exhibitions of WWII and Winston Churchill memorabilia. There are period vehicles and model representations of wartime railways, as well as the Projected Picture Trust – a place for cinema lovers to discover historic projection devices. Children can follow the code trail and have fun in the kid's adventure playground. The whole family can enjoy an ice-cream by the beautiful lake.
