Some of the funniest and well known comedy moments on film and TV have been acted out, or set, in South East England. From long standing family favourites like the ‘Vicar of Dibley’ and ‘The Darling Buds of May’ to the cheeky innuendo filled ‘Carry On’ films, South East England has seen it all.

Carry On
For over twenty years, many of the famous ‘Carry On’ films were shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. An energetic mix of farce, slapstick and double entendres, the films today are seen by many as a classic example of British humour and are still shown on national TV.

The Darling Buds of May
Filmed in Pluckley in Kent and staring the comedy legend David Jason, ‘The Darling Buds of May’ ran for three series and was one of the most popular programmes on TV during the early nineties.

Fierce Creatures
Shot at Marwell Zoological Park in Hampshire, the film ‘Fierce Creatures’ was the sequel to the critical and commercial success ‘A Fish Called Wanda’. Sporting a start studded comedy line-up of John Cleese, Michael Palin and Jamie Lee Curtis the movie was a hit with cinema goers in 1997.

Men Behaving Badly
Worthing in Surrey was the setting for two of Britain’s best known bachelors; Gary and Tony in the leading characters from the era defining sitcom ‘Men Behaving Badly’. Martin Clunes and Neil Morrissey were cast for the roles alongside Caroline Quentin who played the longsuffering girlfriend and Leslie Ash as ‘the girl next door’.
