The village of Westmeston is tucked away at the foot of Ditchling Beacon. It comprises a small group of cottages surrounding the church of St. Martin. Its main claim to fame is a tale of a ghostly headless dog, which is said to haunt Black Dog Hill!

Westmeston was on the route to the Battle of Lewes in 1264. Local legend tells the tale that on particulat days in May the ghostly presence of the King's Men fleeing from the battle can be heard!
