Shanklin on the Isle of Wight is a resort of great charm whose popular seaside attractions include a sandy beach, with excellent swimming and sunbathing opportunities. The seafront Esplanade is lined with small hotels, cafes and amusements including crazy golf, arcades, indoor children’s play area and fun fair. A cliff lift links the town with the Esplanade and a road train operates between the seafront, town centre and the Old Village. A stroll along Shanklin’s High Street and Regent Street will reveal a range of cafes, restaurants and individually owned shops, while the thatched cottages of the Old Village offer the visitor a range of tea rooms and unique gift shops. Shanklin Chine, with its unique microclimate means it is home to an unusual range of flora and fauna, as well as a couple of waterfalls. What you notice especially as you walk around its three acres is just how lush and verdant Shanklin Chine is. There are around 150 varieties of wild plants, at least 50 species of moss and liverworts as well as ponds and an aviary. In short, it is a nature lover's dream but also a relaxing, peaceful place.
