Fleet is situated in the north-east corner of Hampshire, near the M3 motorway and surrounded by small thriving towns and many parishes of unspoiled villages and pretty hamlets. Basingstoke Canal runs through the area and is a popular area for walking, cycling, boating, picnicing and fishing. Explore the ruins of King John's Castle (believed to date from the 13th century) at North Warnborough, where King John rode to Runnymede to sign the Magna Carta in 1215. The family of Jane Seymour, Henry VIII's third wife, hailed from Elvetham. Henry IV and Henry Vll were among royal visitors to historic Dogmersfield Park, which has been developed as a 5 star country hotel. Yateley Common Country Park contains nearly 500 acres of heathland and attractive Fleet Pond is the largest lake in Hampshire and a popular haunt of wildfowl. A wide range of quality accommodation is available, from picturesque rural B&Bs to central hotels. With its ease of access, rural and historic heritage, enchanting villages and wide open spaces, Fleet and the surrounding villages are ideal to explore at any time of the year.
