Visit Firle and walk back in time. The narrow streets of flint knapped cottages do not seem to have changed for centuries. There are lovely walks from the village to Charleston Farmhouse (home of Vanessa Bell and other members of the Bloomsbury Group) and up to Firle Beacon (the highest point on the downs between Brighton and Eastbourne). From the top there are fantastic views of the sea to the south and the Weald to the north.
Walkers along the South Downs quench their thirst at the local pub, The Ram Inn. Firle Place, the home of the Gage family, is open during the summer and has an outstanding collection of Old Master paintings, English and French furniture and notable Sevres and English porcelain.
