Egham
Egham town centre High Street is pedestrianised with a variety of shops and restaurants. It commemorates the sealing of Magna Carta with statues of King John and coats of arms embedded in the pavement. Egham Museum, Strodes College, Royal Holloway College and Runnymede Meadow are in walking distance of the town centre. The Museum offers a number of local history collections. Both Strodes and Royal Holloway Colleges have fantastic frontages. Egham offers good access to attractive countryside and to the River Thames. Bordering the River is National Trust property and Runnymede Pleasure Ground’s “window on the River”. The Air Forces Memorial at Coopers Hill is a peaceful memorial, with great views over the River Thames, beyond Heathrow and into London. Picturesque local villages include Englefield Green, Thorpe and Virginia Water. There are restaurants and shops in Englefield Green and Virginia Water. Thorpe is home to TASIS and to a 12th Century church. Windsor Great Park and Savill Gardens are within a few miles of Egham, along the A30. Following the River Thames or the A 308 past Runnymede Meadow, brings one to Windsor. Runnymede Borough Council publishes rambles leaflets, two of which explore the countryside around Runnymede Meadow and the River Thames.
