FAMILY  EVENT  TO  CELEBRATE  THE  IAN  FLEMING  CENTENARY  AND  HIS  WARTIME  WORK  WITH  BLETCHLEY  PARK

Bank Holiday Monday 25 August

Knowing the enemy’s secrets and keeping your own is a real war winner.  In World War Two, codebreaking and the Special Intelligence derived from it played a major role in the allied victory in Europe.  Ian Fleming, NID 17F, acted as liaison officer between Bletchley Park and the Director of Naval Intelligence throughout the war.  Ian Fleming died in 1964, ten years before the ban on talking about Bletchley Park was lifted.  Bletchley Park can now tell for the first time the story of his involvement with the secrets of ENIGMA and ULTRA, which he was never able to reveal and his intriguing wartime work that really inspired his creation of James Bond.

In celebration of the Ian Fleming Centenary and the opening of the new Ian Fleming Exhibition at Bletchley Park, ‘From Bletchley, With Love’, Bletchley Park is hosting a very special family event on Bank Holiday Monday 25 August.  Highlights of the day will include a stunning display of Aston Martins, courtesy of the Aston Martin Owners’ Club; the Vanquish from ‘Die Another Day’; the RAF ‘Falling Rocks’ parachute display team making a breath-taking descent into the grounds of Bletchley Park Bond-style; ‘Little Nellie 2’, the gyrocopter from the films; Spy Workshops; a spy-themed craft workshop; a spectacular flypast by a wartime Dakota in tribute to Fleming, courtesy of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a special talk by Michael Smith explaining the wartime links between Ian Fleming, Bletchley Park and MI6.  Normal Admission prices apply.
