EASTER STEAM AT DIDCOT RAILWAY CENTRE
Steam trains from the golden age of the Great Western Railway will be in action at Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire during the Easter weekend each day from Good Friday 21 to Easter Monday 24 March.
Didcot Railway Centre is open every day during the school holidays from Saturday 5 to Sunday 20 April with a Steamday and rides on the trains on Sunday 6 April.
"Thomas", the children's favourite tank engine, is steaming to the Railway Centre for a "Day Out With Thomas" from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 April. "Thomas" is one of the engines immortalised in the Railway Series of children's books written by the Reverend W.Awdry. He will be in steam
each day and with his friends the Great Western engines willbe giving rides on the trains under the careful supervision of The Fat Controller, Sir Topham Hatt. There will be plenty of activities to entertain the children and a Thomas shop selling a wide range of souvenirs.
The holiday ends with a St.George's Day Steaming on Sunday 20 April when you can travel back to the 1840s with the 'Fire Fly' locomotive on Brunel's original broad gauge railway.
Opening times are 10.30am to 5pm weekends andSteamdays, other days 10am to 4pm. There are a Refreshment Room, serving lunches and snacks, and a picnic area where you can sit and watch the trains go by.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The Centre adjoins Didcot Parkway rail station with frequent First Great Western Trains from London, the Thames Valley, Oxford, Swindon, Bristol, etc. By road it is on the A4130 signposted from the A34 and M4 (junction 13).
