Inspirational Oxfordshire artist to feature work at the Gallery at Waterperry

Wednesday, 5th March 2008

Oxfordshire Sculptor Daren Greenhow will be the first of a series of featured artists to appear at the Gallery at Waterperry this year.

For the whole of April his innovative metal sculptures which are created from reclaimed bicycle parts will be on display in the beautiful restored barn at Waterperry.

His pieces are both original and intriguing with their readily identifiable components expressed in unexpected, often surprising contexts.

The event also gives Daren the chance to exhibit a wide variety of his work, both large and small, encompassing a broad range of subjects.

Outside the Gallery in the unique garden centre surroundings, there'll be a whimsical 2 metre tall 'Fish on a Bicycle' (see photograph below), and the imposing 4 metre-high winged crane.

Inside the Gallery visitors will see smaller works such as intricate butterflies, wall lizards from bicycle chains and a variety of elegant birds.

Daren will be at the Gallery at Waterperry all day on Saturday 5^th April demonstrating how he creates his sculptures.

Announcing the new initiative at Waterperry, Gallery Manager Kate Hipkiss said 'the idea of having a 'featured artist' exhibition every three months is to expand on what we already do at the Gallery and raise the profile of British-based artists and craftspeople. At a time when many Galleries are closing down, I want the Gallery at Waterperry to become known as a place to come for high-quality arts and crafts, as well as contributing towards the growing Oxford arts scene', she added.
