Classic Transport And Vintage Family Funfair This Easter At The Medway Festival Of Steam & Transport!

Friday, 14th March 2008

Classic vehicles and family fun hit The Historic Dockyard in a big way this Easter Sunday and Monday, 23rd and 24th March, when over 600 magnificent transport exhibits line-up for inspection each day and a 'Golden Gallopers' Carousel takes pride of place in the Vintage Funfair at the Medway Festival of Steam & Transport. Another record entry this year has seen 'House Full' signs up for some weeks with hardly a space left.

Steam Rollers, Shire Horses, Vintage Buses, Police Cars and a whole host of other gleaming transport exhibits have been lucky enough to be accepted and allocated space at the festival. Many steam exhibits will be seen in action as the Traction Engines and Dockyard Locomotives parade through the Dockyard. Another feature sure to excite will be the daily cavalcade of historic motorcycles led in 'Presidential Escort' style by United States Police Motorcycles.

Over 300 cars, the oldest being a 1902 Oldsmobile, will stretch-out beside the river along Anchor Wharf. It is here that the 50th Anniversary of the Austin Healey will be marked by the Austin Healey Owners Club display. In the Military and Commercial Vehicles displays another notable anniversary will be marked, for this year is also the 60th Anniversary of the 'Great British' Land Rover!

Family entertainment and fun is a leading feature of this year's festival. A Vintage Funfair will keep the children of all ages happy with all prices capped at just £1.00. Over by the Police Museum the fabulous 'Kondinis' will amaze young and old alike with their astounding fire-eating and stunt show. Music will abound with the best selection to date of traditional Fairground organs led by a huge lorry-mounted example exhibited by Mr & Mrs Seymour of Cranbrook.

So if its family fun and hours of added-value entertainment you are seeking, The Historic Dockyard Chatham is the place to be this Easter.
