View to the church in Cassington

About

The centre of this small village is its traditional green (one of two in the village) lined by attractive old cottages, the pub and the primary school. An avenue of lime trees leads across the side of the green to the Norman doorway of the 12C church of St Peter, which also contains surviving fragments of medieval wall painting.

Between 1800 and 1802 the 4th Duke of Marlborough, who was a shareholder in the Oxford Canal, built the Cassington Cut, a "broad" canal about 1,300 yards (1,200 m) long[13] linking the Thames with a wharf just to the southwest of the village. However it fell into disuse in the 1860s after the building of the railway to Witney (which, in turn, closed in the 1960s).

On the last Monday of June, Bike Night is held on the village green with motorcycle enthusiasts coming to admire a static display of hundreds of historic British motorcycles.
