About

Bury is a picturesque village nestling beneath the downs and beside River Arun. There are many attractive old cottages, some thatched and some roofed with Horsham stone. Bury House was once the home of writer and poet John Galsworthy. The church is constructed of flint, stone and chalk, and parts of it date back to the 12th century. Nearby is the site of the old ferry, sadly no longer in existence, which used to take people across the river by punt to visit Amberley. The steps down to the river have been kept so that residents can launch their boats. Each summer the village fete is held in the beautiful grounds of Bury Manor, and is popular with locals and visitors alike. Bury has a popular pub/restaurant, and several houses cater for bed & breakfast. There is also a family-run garden centre, and fresh milk & eggs can be bought from the local farm. It is a peaceful village, with ample walking, being close to the South Downs Way.
