Aldershot

About

Known as The Home of the British Army, Aldershot has been one of the most important military towns in the UK since 1854.

It's not surprising then, that Aldershot boasts one of the best military museums outside of London - Aldershot Military Museum, with  new kid-friendly interactive attractions such as a tank driving simulator.

The town also hosts the annual Army Show - a great day out for the family, with everything from parachute displays to battle reenactments. Aldershot is also a great place to find sport and leisure facilities including the Alpine Snowsports Centre.

Aldershot barracks have also been chosen as the base for Team GB's final preparations for the London 2012 Olympics.

Things to do in Aldershot

  • Visit the Aldershot Military Museum (open every day from 10am to 5pm). It's full of fascinating permanent and temporary exhibitions, from recreated 19th Century barracks, to decommissioned military vehicles, such as a huge Chieftain tank.
  • Take a stroll through Brickfields Country Park, or walk along the peaceful banks of the Basingstoke Canal.
