Dover
The White Cliffs of Dover are one of Britain's most iconic landmarks, and the star of countless UK and Hollywood movies. Stunning as they are, there's plenty more to discover in the vibrant, historic seaside town of Dover.
Part of what makes Dover so lively is its proximity to the continent – a mere 90 minutes by boat and the nearest Kent town to France. For that reason, Dover sees millions of people come through its port every year - making it the busiest ferry port in the world.
Yet, linger a while in Dover itself and you'll discover a town that has been at the centre of important British historical events for centuries. You'll find everything from Battle of Britain artefacts, to the towering Dover Castle where French troops were held at bay in 1216. Later the evacuation of Dunkirk was planned from here in 1940.
