Chichester
One of the most charming and stylish cities on the South Coast, Chichester combines all the attractions of a thriving urban centre with the rural delights of West Sussex.
Just a short train ride from London, Chichester is ideally placed for exploring the glorious coastline and the stunning surrounding countryside of the South Downs.
The 600-year-old spire of Chichester Cathedral, rising above the peaceful streets below, can be seen from miles out at sea. Head inside to see the striking arches and stained glass windows – or join a guided tour for the full insight into this stunning construction.
Adding to Chichester's atmosphere of elegance and sophistication is Goodwood Racecourse. One of the world's great racecourses, with expansive views across the Downs towards the Solent, Goodwood is a picturesque gem. Even if you're not there for the horses, there are regular concerts, the annual Festival of Speed and a beautiful mansion house to explore.
Chichester is also home to undoubtedly one of the best theatres outside of London. The Chichester Festival Theatre has seen countless stars and big West End shows appear on its bill, with an annual programme of theatre, comedy and special events (culminating in the Chichester Festival).
