Bardown Farm Holiday Cottages
Self Catering
AwardBardown Farm lies at the top of a valley in An Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of the Sussex High Weald. From the cottages and pool there are 180 degree panoramicm views to the distant villages of Burwash and Brightling across rolling hills, ancient woodlands and green pastures. Not a single modern pylon or road spoils the view! Formerly a dairy farm, Bardown Farm is still very much a traditional working farm. With sheep, cows and loads of free range chickens who lay delicious eggs! There are 90 acres of pasture, ponds and mature woodland brimming with bluebells and primroses in the spring that you are welcome to explore.
We have just finished converting our huge 18thC oak framed Sussex barn into 3 very large spacious cottages each sleeping 4 people. The barn is full of character with all the old beams and interior sandstone walls exposed and restored. To add to the charm there are solid oak doors with old latches throughout, oak staircases, oak floorboards with rugs and oak windows with quality window dressings. Upstairs there is a large galleried landing which overlooks the ground floor of the cottage and has superb views down the valley. Leading off is the family bathroom and 2 bedrooms - a double bedroom with en suite shower or bathroom and a twin bedroom. Both rooms have televisions.
Downstairs is open plan with a central sandstone wall topped by old oak studs separating the loung from the kitchen diner. Each cottage has a beautiful bespoke oak kitchen with solid granite work areas. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, American style fridge/freezer, tumble dryer, microwave and oven. Nestled in 1 corner is a large dining table seating 6. The lounge is furnished with 2 leather settees, a widescreen TV with DVD/video player and French oak styled furniture. Externally, each cottage has its own patio area with garden furniture and barbecue and a large south facing garden with views down the valley. There is access to a 38'x16' heated outdoor pool which again has stunning views.
There is lots to see and doo in the area - Bewl Water is 5 minutes drive and has a 13 mile round reservoir route that you can walk, bike or ride on horseback. On the water you can sail, fish, windsurf or just sit and enjoy. There are numerous National Trust properties nearby - Bodiam Castle, Scotney, Sissinghurst and Batemans to name but a few. The coast is just 30 minutes drive to the beautiful Camber Sands, ideal for the children, or the historic quaint port of Rye with its cobbled streets and little shops. Equal distance is Eastbourne with the rugged coastal walks or Beachy Head or Hastings with its lovely footpaths up in the firehills. Our nearest shopping centre is Royal Tunbridge Wells, famous for its upmarket boutiques and numerous street cafes and restaurants. Finally, for a day trip to the capital take the train from Stonegate station that goes directly into London in just 50 minutes. Better still, a 30 minute walk down the Roman road footpath known as Picadilly will take you straight from the farm to the station and you can leave the car at home.
